European Community buildings (Brussels - Belgium)

Merford supplied and installed various sound-insulating and/or fire-resistant doors in the different radio and TV studios and offices of the European Community buildings. The extremely high sound insulation value required for the radio and TV studios necessitated the use of a tandem construction.

As regards the offices, the architect originally intended to use wooden doors. As the required insulation values could not be achieved with wooden doors, steel doors were chosen for the offices too. To ensure consistency in the use of wood and uniformity in style, wooden frames were placed over the Merford steel frames.
